Suspect in court accused of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice after man’s death in Edinburgh | UK News

A suspect has appeared in court charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice following the death of a man in Edinburgh.

Police were called to Westfield Road in the town at around 12.55pm on Friday following concerns about a man inside a property.

The 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland said his next of kin have been informed.

Paul Menzies, 43, was arrested and charged over the weekend over the man’s death.

The suspect appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday and made no plea to charges of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Menzies, from Edinburgh, was remanded in custody and is expected to return to the dock within the next eight days.

Detective Inspector David McAlinden said: “At this time our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.

“This was a contained incident, but we know that the police presence and subsequent road closure had a significant impact on the local community and the wider public.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst officers carried out their investigations in the area.”
