Shawn Seesahai’s parents said they will never be able to get over the loss of their beloved son.

Shawn’s father, Suresh Seesahai, and mother, Maneshwary Seesahai, said their son was a hard worker who “loved” helping his mother around the house, worked for his father on the weekends and always said that one day he would would “shine”. and take care of them.

Mrs Seesahai said: “Shawn was such a loving son, he was so well-mannered, looked after us, was loving to everyone and very protective.

“He always said he wanted to work, he wanted his own house, his own car.

“After the eye surgery, he told me he would finish school. He always said ‘Mom, I’ll be shining, I’ll be shining, don’t worry, I’ll help you’.

“He wanted to be an engineer, when he was 10 years old he worked with his father on weekends in construction, his father taught him all the tools and as he grew up he wanted to be an engineer in the UK.

“He liked basketball and cricket, he loved those sports. He was always listening to music. He spent most of his time at home and didn’t want to go out much.”

Seesahai added: “I will remember him every day, when I get home I see his photos, his clothes, his sneakers, I will always remember him.

“Even at work I work for myself and he works for me on the weekends, when I packed my things he always helped me.

“Whenever I put something in my truck now, he’s right there with me helping me do it.

“I never had any problems with Shawn, he was a very loving son. He woke up at 5 am to work and whenever I paid him he always kept it.

“We are a very close family, we will never forget him.”

Seesahai said she feels sorry for the parents of the children accused of the murder and just hopes “justice” is served for her teenage son’s death.

Mrs Seesahai said: “He didn’t deserve what happened, I don’t have much to say about it. I just want justice.”

He added: “Justice must be done. I want them to get the right sentence, they don’t need to be in prison for the rest of their lives, I just want it to be fair.

“We’re crossing our fingers that we get the justice we came here for.”

After discovering that the accused are children, the parents questioned how such a young person could have a weapon like a machete with him while walking the streets.

Seesahai said: “I don’t think it’s good for a child to carry a machete, not even a knife, he’s just a child.

“Pay attention to your children, if you see them doing something wrong, tell them. Check their room, sometimes you don’t know what’s in there, so check as parents.

“This world is a different world, children are dangerous now. If we don’t pay attention to them, this will keep happening.”

Ms Seesahai added: “12-year-olds should be at home doing school work and then going to bed. I have two children and at 7:30 pm they had to go to bed because they have to follow the house rules.

“Before that, they do their schoolwork and rest a little.

“Shawn was 19, he could go wherever he wanted, he was a man you knew.”

The loving parents, who also have a teenage daughter, have revealed the moment they were told their son had been stabbed to death.

Mrs Seesahai said: “I got a call from Shawn’s friend who was staying with him. He told me that Shawn had been stabbed and I started crying.

“I told my husband and he asked for the phone number to find out what had happened.”

Seesahai added: “She kept saying Shawn had been stabbed, I asked her what she meant and then she handed me the phone.

“I asked if Shawn was okay and he said no, that he had passed away.

“About 30 minutes later I got a call from the police asking if I was Shawn’s father and if I could spell Shawn’s name. I said ‘yes’ and did so, they told me they had bad news – that my son had been stabbed and had passed away.

“Getting a call like that isn’t nice for anyone. I tried to stay awake, but getting a message like that wasn’t easy.”

The heartbroken couple had to wait 11 days before they could travel to the UK.

Mrs Seesahai said: “We couldn’t eat for a week straight. We were in total shock and didn’t know what we were doing.”

The parents said they will never find peace after going through what happened, but they must try to find a way to continue living.

Seesahai said: “I have lived in Anguilla for over 20 years. This is something I never expected to do.

“Shawn passed away, someone took his life and left his body on the ground. If his friend hadn’t been there, maybe he would have been lying there until the next day.

“We will never find peace, but we speak and in this world things happen. We can’t forget Shawn, but we must try and move on.”

Ms Seesahai added: “Every day we will have to live with this until God is ready for us.”

Seesahai added: “It’s also very difficult for his sister because they were always talking to each other. After he passed away, we were on the porch, and she started crying and said, ‘Mommy, I don’t have a brother, it’s just me, alone.’

“I told her she has her father and mother.”
