Comedians Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont have announced they are divorcing after nine years of marriage.

In a statement, the couple said they had “jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways.”

They added: “As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we ask that our privacy be respected at this delicate time to protect her well-being.

“We will have no further comment.”

The couple has starred together in the mockumentary Meet The Richardsons – in which they play “exaggerated versions of themselves” – since 2020.

The pair, who have a daughter, also starred together on Celebrity Gogglebox.

Beaumont was nominated for a 2023 BAFTA TV Award in the category of best female performance in a comedy program for her role in Meet The Richardsons.

However, in an interview last year, Beaumont said that their on-screen personas on the show, in which they frequently fight, were not a true reflection of their real-life relationship.

“It’s been great, but I see comments on social media and people don’t seem to realize it’s not real,” she told the Sunday Post.

“I’m not the dominant one – we wouldn’t have lasted this long if I was so cruel to him in real life.”

Regarding the show’s concept, she added: “You don’t want to see a smug, loving couple, in a nice house, with a stable career and a lovely child.

In a separate interview with The Guardian last year, Richardson said: “All couples argue, but we have an end product to our arguments.

“We hone them and then we put them on TV. And then it’s like, ‘Oh, maybe we weren’t arguing — maybe we were just working on a routine.'”

Beaumont, a stand-up comedian from Hull whose routines often feature jokes about her hometown, has appeared on panels such as Have I Got News For You.

She also appeared as a contestant on the 16th series of comedy game show Taskmaster, which aired last year.

Richardson, also a stand-up star known for his dry humor, was previously team captain on 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

In 2018, the Lancaster-born comedian launched the panel show Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier, which ran for two series with Dave.

He previously co-hosted with Russell Howard on BBC Radio 6 Music.
