Teenager in critical condition and three others injured after car left South Lanarkshire road and burst into flames | UK News

A teenager is in critical condition and three other people were injured after a car left the road and suffered burns.

The gray Ford Ka was traveling west on the A721 towards Carluke, South Lanarkshire, when it left the carriageway near Crawfordwalls Bridge and came to rest partially submerged in water at around 10.20pm on Monday.

Emergency crews attended and a 17-year-old male was airlifted to London Royal Infirmary. Edinburghwhere the medical team describes his condition as critical but stable.

A 19-year-old man was taken to from Glasgow Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and two men aged 18 and 19 were taken to Wishaw University Hospital.

The road was closed to allow investigation work, with the Police Scotland urging anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “An investigation is ongoing as we aim to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“I appeal to all motorists traveling on the A721 Kilncadzow/Carnwath road who may have seen the Ford Ka before it left the road.

“I would also ask anyone with camera equipment to check their images as there may be images of the vehicle that could assist our investigations.”
