A HITWOMAN who wore a hijab to disguise herself when she allegedly tried to murder a family has been unmasked.

Hired killer Aimee Betro, 44, was hired by Mohammed Nazir, 30, and Mohammed Aslam, 56, for a revenge killing in Birmingham, a court heard.

But the gun jammed when she tried to shoot Sikander Ali in the street in Measham Grove, Acocks Green, on September 7, 2019.

The 44-year-old has now been unmasked – as a US woman who drank cocktails.

Betro, who is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, allegedly took a selfie with a devil’s horn effect the day before he tried to murder his family.

She also boasted about meeting her “partner in crime” in Manchester – and posted photos of cocktails.

After the failed assassination attempt, she returned to the property in a taxi and shot the house three times.

She also texted Mr. Ali’s father, Aslat Mahamud, the alleged target, saying “where are you hiding?” and “stop playing hide and seek.”

Later, Betro fled back to Chicago while the police tracked down Nazir and Aslam and charged them in connection with the murder plot.

Last week, Nazir and Aslam, from Derby, were found guilty of conspiracy to murder following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Nazir was also convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, illegal importation of firearms and perverting the course of justice.

Jurors were told the pair had a grudge against their family following a dispute in a clothes shop in 2018 which left them both injured.

Seeking revenge, they became part of a plot to kill the Birmingham store owner or attack his family.

They plotted revenge and arranged for Betro to fly in from the US, who contacted Mr Mahamud pretending to be interested in buying a car he was selling.

Kevin Hegarty KC, prosecuting, said a Mercedes was driven into Measham Grove and parked before Ali stopped in an Audi outside another address.

He said: “As he did this the would-be killer came from the driver’s side of the Mercedes.

She took aim and fired three shots in the direction of the house before returning to the waiting taxi.

“It was a woman. When she got out of the Mercedes, she left the driver’s door open.

“She calmly walked towards Sikander Ali and pointed a gun at him at head level.

“When she approached Sikander Ali, he saw her and saw the gun and she pulled the trigger to shoot him.

“Fortunately and fortunately for him, the gun jammed. He quickly reversed the car, hitting the opening door of the Mercedes.

“The alleged killer ran back to the Mercedes and started to drive away.

“As she did so, she tried to close the driver’s door but was unable to do so.

‘I took out a gun’

“She didn’t get very far and abandoned the Mercedes, where she was later found, and hailed a taxi just before 9pm.”

Hegarty said that in the early hours of the following morning the woman called the same company and took a taxi again to Measham Grove.

He added: “She pulled out a gun, it could have been the same gun.

“She took aim and fired three shots in the direction of the house before returning to the waiting taxi.”

Jurors heard that Betro bought the Mercedes from a dealership in Birmingham after flying from Chicago to Manchester, via Atlanta, on August 22 – 16 days before the shooting.

In the days leading up to the incident, she stayed in several hotels in Birmingham, Derby, Brighton and London and left the UK on 9 September.

Before flying back to the US, Betro contacted Virgin Airlines and tried to change her flight documents so that Nazir could fly back with her, but was unable to do so.

The pair will be sentenced on August 9.

We hope that today, after several years of unraveling this investigation, justice has been served.

Detective Inspector Matt Marston, from Western Centers Police later said: “This was a complex and lengthy investigation.

“Aslam and Nazir were determined to take revenge after a disagreement in which they were injured.

“The effort they put into trying to ensure they were not implicated in pulling the trigger is immense.

“However, thanks to excellent police work and the support of our Derbyshire colleagues, we were able to place them firmly in the middle of the attempted murder.

“We hope that today, after several years of unraveling this investigation, justice has been served.”

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: “No one died as a result of Aslam and Nazir’s actions it was pure luck.

“Their plan was to kill, and if it hadn’t been for the gun jamming, there’s a good chance this would have been a murder investigation.

“Importing firearms is an extremely serious offense and in this case the aim was to incriminate the target as revenge for a previous incident.

“As a police service, we will do everything we can to target those who seek to bring these weapons into our communities and bring them to justice.”

West Midlands Police said efforts to find her were “continuing”.
