Scotland made a horrible start to Euro 2024 with a 5-1 defeat to Germany in the opening match of the tournament.

They had a big hill to climb from the start after a goal from Florian Wirtz in the 10th minute was followed by a second from Jamal Musiala.

Musiala, who had a great opening game, hit the ball into the roof of the net to significantly dampen the Tartan Army’s spirits.

Things went from bad to worse when Ryan Porteous was sent off for fouling Ilkay Gundogan in the box just before half-time – with Arsenal’s Kai Havertz converting the penalty.

Germany were equally dominant after the break and Niclas Fullkrug scored another to make it 4-0.

There was a glimmer of consolation when Antonio Rudiger’s own goal in the 87th minute gave the Scottish fans a brief moment of celebration.

However, Emre Can scored in stoppage time to make it 5-1 – the worst ever Euro debut defeat.

It was a performance full of errors for Scotland, who will have to improve a lot in the upcoming games against Hungary and Switzerland.
