Kate to appear on Trooping the Color in first public appearance since cancer diagnosis | UK News

The Princess of Wales will make her first public appearance this year at Trooping the Colour.

Kate, who has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer since late February, will travel by carriage alongside her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

She is later expected to join the king, her husband the Prince of Wales and other royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for a flyover.

The princess42, said: “I’m looking forward to taking part in the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hoping to take part in some public engagements over the summer, but also knowing that I’m not out of the woods yet.

“I’m learning to be patient, especially with uncertainty.

“Take each day as it comes, listening to my body and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.”

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Her Majesty is delighted that the Princess will be able to take part in tomorrow’s events and is looking forward to all elements of the day.”

Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer welcomed the news on social media, both describing Kate as an “inspiration” to those facing similar health issues.

This will be the princess’s first official departure in 2024, after she missed commitments at the beginning of the year, when she was admitted to hospital for abdominal surgery on January 16.

At the time, her condition was thought to be non-cancerous, but tests carried out after the successful operation revealed the disease, and Kate announced the diagnosis in March.

A deadline has not yet been set for Kate’s return to a busy schedule of public engagements.

Trooping will be a special event for the Princess as Number 9 Company, the Irish Guards, a regiment she represents as Colonel, will be trooping the King’s Color, but Lieutenant General Sir James Bucknall will take the salute on her behalf.

The king, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, will not ride during the ceremony but will inspect the troops formed on the Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall in a carriage.

Also appearing at the ceremony will be three military horses that bolted through London earlier this year.

Five horses from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment were injured while racing through the capital after being frightened by debris falling through a plastic tunnel during an exercise in Belgravia on 24 April.

Three steeds, named Tennyson, Trojan and Vanquishwere confirmed to have roles after recovery in “specialist respite care” and the army said the trio showed “aptitude and enthusiasm”.

Tennyson will travel in the prestigious Sovereign’s Escort, while Trojan and Vanquish will join the King’s Life Guard in the Horse Guards, providing the ceremonial guard for the official entrance to the royal palaces.
