One 2019 Conservative voter said: “This is the final straw. I think this is over. It’s unattainable now and Rishi Sunak should resign and the Conservative Party has to start all over again.”
Another who also voted Tory in 2019 told us: “It makes us see the Tories in an even worse position than they are currently.
And for Tory voters who tell us they are leaning towards Reform, this comment is striking.
“I do not think that [alleged] The betting scandal will have a major impact on Sunak’s election campaign.
“I think I was doomed before… It’s just another nail in the coffin.”
Two other panelists used the same phrase.

New scandal risks hurting conservatives
The language our panel used was extremely angry.
Looking at the words people used when talking about Rishi Sunak and the impact this could have on the Conservatives – “damaging”, “disgusting” and “not surprising” were among the most common.
Sky News’ YouGov Voter Panel represents more than 40 different constituencies and a range of political opinions. At the beginning of the election campaign, everyone was undecided who to vote for.
When asked whether the alleged scandal would impact how they vote, these are some of the responses from 2019 conservative voters.
“I don’t think this will make much difference to the British and the Conservatives. They are dead and buried in this election.”
Another said: “Looks like he’s leading a pack of clowns.
“He has absolutely no idea what they’re doing and what they’re doing and he doesn’t really seem to have any control over them.”
