Jay Slater: Hunt continues for ‘living nightmare’ for British teenager missing in Tenerife | World News

Helicopters, rescue dogs and drones continued to scour the resort island of Tenerife for a missing British teenager, as worried family and friends face a “living nightmare”.

The hunt for the 19-year-old Jay Slater from Oswaldtwistle, near Blackburn in Lancashire, is now in its fifth day.

The bricklayer apprentice was on vacation with friends in Tenerife before disappearing on Monday.

He was last heard from when he called a friend to say he was taking an 11-hour walk home after missing the bus.

Came like new photos showed the property where he was last seen in the northwestern mountain village of Masca after attending the NRG music festival.

In a post on the “Jay Slater Missing” Facebook page, group administrator Rachel Louise Harg said family and friends were “exhausted beyond words.”

She said: “Unfortunately there is no update for anyone.

“We are struggling to find words at the moment, but all I can say is that we are at a standstill and everyone is doing everything they can.

“We are exhausted beyond words – I simply can’t say any more, I wish I could.

“I wish this would end now, this living nightmare.

“The searches continue and we remain positive.

“Thank you to all of you supporting and helping, we can’t thank you more, lots of love.”

On Friday, search and rescue personnel joined officers from the island’s Guardia Civil, near Masca, to search an area of ​​overgrown land.

Crews also paid close attention to a river called Barranco Madre del Agua, at the bottom of a ravine, where emergency crews carefully picked their way through fallen dead palm trees.

Slater’s friend Lucy Law, who attended the music festival with him, said he called her at around 8.30am on Monday and said he was “lost in the mountains, not aware of his surroundings, He desperately needed a drink and his phone was at 1%.”

Meanwhile, members of the local community gathered in a church service in his hometown to express hope for his safe return.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who was reported missing in Spain and are liaising with local authorities.”
