A Labor candidate has been suspended after the Gambling Commission launched an investigation into him.

Kevin Craig is running to become MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich – a seat previously held by former Conservative Dan Poulter, who defected to the Labor Party before the election but is not standing again.

Sky News understands that the bet was related to the outcome of the election in its constituency.

A Labor Party spokesperson said: “With Keir Starmer as leader, the Labor Party maintains the highest standards for our parliamentary candidates, as the public rightly expects of any party it seeks to serve, and that is why we act immediately in this case.”

The complete list of candidates running for the position is below:

Charlie Caiger, independent;
Tony Gould, Reform UK;
Mike Hallatt, Independent;
Brett Alistair Mickelburgh, Liberal Democrats;
Dan Pratt, Greens;
Patrick Spencer, Conservatives.
