Today was the hottest day of the year so far in the UK, the Met Office said.
A maximum of 30°C (86°F) was recorded in Chertsey, Surrey.
It is the highest value recorded in the United Kingdom since September 10 last year, the meteorological agency reported.
Winterbourne in Gloucestershire was 28.7°C, Pershore in Worcestershire 28°C and Usk in Monmouthshire 27°C.
It could get even hotter on Wednesday and some areas could reach 31°C (87.8°F), the Met Office added.
A yellow alert from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is in place across most of England until 5pm on Thursday.
It warns that there could be “significant impacts” on the health and social assistance sector and an increase in mortality in people over 65 and people with health problems.

Things are expected to cool down a bit before the weekend, but it will remain warm.
The Met Office said the heatwave could become a heatwave, which technically occurs when temperatures exceed a set threshold for three consecutive days.

The festival gates open on Wednesday, when Worthy Farm is forecast to reach 27C, and the weekend is looking good.
However, there is a chance of some rain on Saturday.
The heatwave marks a break from the wet spring, which saw 32% more rain than average in England and Wales, making it the fifth wettest in England and the eighth wettest in Wales, said the Met Office.
