A WOKE university has told students not to use the words “illegal immigrant” for fear it could cause offence.
The term is dehumanizing, and employees and students can say “undocumented” instead, the guidance says.
Terms like “crazy” and “crazy” for incredible events should be replaced with “bananas”, adds London Metropolitan University’s inclusive language guide.
Conservative politician Nigel Mills called it “absurd nonsense”.
He fired back: “Illegal migrant is a simple, factual term for someone who has not come to the UK legally.
“Surely universities have better uses for tuition fees than paying people to invent this rubbish.”
The university, which has 12,500 students, also says on its website: “Welcome, ladies and gentlemen”, should be replaced with “Welcome everyone”.
Husbands and wives should be called “partners” and mothers and fathers “parents” or “caregivers.”
Ageist terms “elderly, OAPs, pensioners or young people” are also discouraged.
The university said it wants to use words “that signify respect, recognize the nuances of our lived experience, and promote equitable outcomes.”
A spokesperson added: “We take pride in our diverse community and our commitment to creating a welcoming environment where all students can succeed.
“This is not about political correctness; it’s about making sure everyone feels valued.
“We stand by our values and the positive impact of this guide.”
