A Cardiff City footballer has apologized for making allegedly homophobic comments to a police officer.
Mahlon Romeo pleaded guilty last month to using “threatening, abusive or insulting” words or behavior.
The 28-year-old was fined £3,317 and ordered to pay the victim £100.
At a previous hearing on March 1 this year, Romeo was fined £4,423 for driving a car over the alcohol limit.
WalesOnline first reported that the comments made to the officer were homophobic in nature.
On Friday, Romeo issued a statement in which he apologized to Cardiff City and its supporters for their actions.
He accepted that they had “caused hurt and distress”.
“Anyone who knows me closely knows that I am not prejudiced against anyone based on their sexual orientation or sexuality,” he added.

“In the past, I have worked hard to fight discrimination and prejudice, and so my actions that night were a great personal disappointment.
“At the time of the incident, I wrote a letter to the police officer involved, unreservedly apologizing for my comments and explaining that they did not reflect my personality, beliefs or historical behavior.
“I deeply regret the course of events that occurred that night and would like to reiterate my apologies to anyone who was offended by the comments I made.”
