A controlled explosion was carried out on a suspicious package in Nottingham, police have confirmed.

Another suspect item will also be destroyed by explosive ordinance disposal engineers.

The first package was discovered in Maxwell Court, Lenton, and the second in nearby Allington Avenue.

Roads in the region remain closed.

People are advised to stay away until further notice and several residents have been evacuated as a precaution.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: “This is an ongoing incident and we are dealing with it as a serious incident, along with other emergency services, and will provide regular updates on our website and social media.

“We ask residents to avoid the area at this time and would like to thank them for their patience and understanding.”
