The search for Jay Slater in an area of ​​Tenerife has been called off, police said, almost two weeks after he disappeared.

The British teenagerfrom Oswaldtwistle, near Blackburn in Lancashire, has been missing in Tenerife since June 17, when he disappeared the morning after a rave.

The Civil Guard called for volunteers to join a new search in the Masca area – close to its last known location – on Saturday.

It has now been confirmed to Sky News that the search is over. Police are keeping the investigation open and may still begin searches in the south of the island, but have not provided an update.

A handful of volunteers showed up to help rescuers on Saturday, forming a total group of 30 to 40 people scouring a huge area of ​​rugged, mountainous terrain.

Slater, 19, was on holiday with friends on the Spanish island and was last photographed at Papayago, a nightclub hosting the closing of the NRG festival, at the end of June 16.

After the event ended, he got into a car and traveled to a small Airbnb in Masca with two men, who police said on Saturday were “not relevant” to the case.

Its last known location was the Teno Rural Park, in the north of the island – which is around an 11-hour walk from your accommodation.

‘I just want him back’

The owner of a local cafe told Sky News he tried to catch a bus back to Los Cristianos, where he was staying.

Ofelia Medina Hernandez said she spoke to the teen at 8 a.m. on June 17, telling him the bus would arrive at 10 a.m. — but he started walking and she said she later passed him “walking fast.”

The apprentice bricklayer called a friend who was on holiday with him at around 8.30am on June 17 and said he would walk back after missing the bus.

He also told his friend that he was lost and needed water, with only 1% charge on his cell phone.

On Friday, Slater’s friend Brad Hargreaves told ITV’s This Morning he was on a video call with him before he disappeared. when he heard him pull off the road.

He said he could see his friend’s feet “sliding” down the hill and hear that he was walking on gravel.

Meanwhile, Slater’s family shared a blurry image of what they believe to be the missing teenager, captured on security cameras in a nearby town 10 hours after he disappeared.
