England survived a scare to book their place in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals after beating Slovakia 2-1 in extra time.

Gareth Southgate The team fell behind after 25 minutes when Ivan Schranz gave Slovakia a shock lead and they looked to be exiting the tournament as the game reached stoppage time.

However, Jude Bellingham produced a moment of brilliance as he scored a stunning equalizer with seconds remaining to send the last 16 tie into extra time.

Captain Harry Kane put England ahead early in the first half of extra time and they held on despite some nervous moments.

Bellingham told reporters that the team’s success could spur them on for the rest of the competition and described his goal as “one of the most important moments of my career so far”.

England looked disappointing in the first half and by half-time manager Gareth Southgate was unable to make any changes.

In the second half, however, England came closer with two attempts on goal, although Phil Foden’s goal was ruled out by VAR and Declan Rice’s shot came off the post.

Southgate’s team now face Switzerland in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals on Saturday.

If they reached the semi-finals, they would play a semi-final on Wednesday 10th July.
