A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a widow who was found with her throat slit in her home 11 years ago.
Una Crown, 86, was discovered in a pool of blood by family members at her bungalow in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
The retired postmistress was stabbed in the neck and chest and her clothes were set on fire in an attempt to disguise the injuries.
Her wedding ring, front door key and £40 were missing.
Cambridgeshire Police today confirmed that a 69-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder – 11 years after the Horror.
The suspect was performed this morning and remains in custody.
Una was last seen alive two days before the January 2013 murder, when she was shopping.
Police initially believed that Una had died of a heart attack when she accidentally set herself on fire while trying to put out a fire from a faulty stove.
Police officers who attended the horror scene also believed the marks on her throat were caused by pressure from a scarf as her body fell to the ground.
But an inquest into Una’s death in 2015 revealed Cambridgeshire Police missed “clear signs” of her murder during the initial investigation.
The force later apologized and launched a murder investigation after a post-mortem revealed she had died from stab wounds.
It is believed the attacker attempted to destroy evidence by setting Una on fire, but the fire did not spread.
Due to the initial investigation, the floor of Una’s bungalow was cleaned and the crime scene was contaminated.
The force said it believed the widow knew her killer when they asked for information in January.
The charity Crimestoppers has also offered a £20,000 reward in an attempt to catch the killer.
