Nat Sciver-Brunt became the first English woman to be honored as the world’s leading Wisden cricketer.

The 31-year-old took the top spot in the women’s game after excellent form in 2023, with Australian captain Pat Cummins lifting the men’s trophy after leading his country to success in the World Test Championship and 50s World Cup. .

He succeeds Ben Stokes, who has won the prestigious title three times in the last four years.

Sciver-Brunt’s star power was recognized by Mumbai Indians earlier this year when her £320,000 Women’s Premier League contract made her the UK’s highest-paid female athlete.

Since then, she has hit three ODI centuries in five innings, including two Ashes tons in the space of 72 hours, as England came from 6-0 down to level the main series 8-8.

She also scored a hundred-ball 66 against Sri Lanka, a new English record, having previously been named top scorer in the final and placed second in the WPL.

By receiving Wisden’s approval, Sciver-Brunt finally puts an English name on the women’s gong, which has been won five times by Australians in the 10 years since its creation.
