YOUTUBER Niko Omilana rose to prominence for making viral prank videos.
In addition to amassing millions of followers on Instagram, the influencer also ventured into politics.
Who is Niko Omilana?
Niko Omilana was born on March 4, 1998, in Staffordshire.
He became popular for posting prank videos on his YouTube channel and is probably best known for his viral video titled I Pranked America’s Most Racist Man.
Omilana is also a star on Instagram, where she has gained 3 million followers (as of July 2024).
In early September 2021, Omilana was announced as a member of the YouTube Allstars football team.
Allstars was created by British YouTube group Sidemen in 2016 to play charity football matches.
As of June 2024, Omilana has an estimated net worth of around £1 million.
On Instagram, the viral star commands up to £1,000 per sponsored post.
Which political party is Niko Omilana a member of?
Omilana has not been a member of any political party since July 2024.
When he ran for mayor of London in 2021, he said he was part of the Niko Defense League, but stood as an independent candidate in the 2024 general election.
Independent candidates do not need to be chosen by a political party to stand for election and are not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association.
How many votes did Niko Omilana get in the elections?
Omilana polled just 160 votes in Richmond and Northallerton.
Rishi Sunak won the new seat at the 2024 General Election following changes to the constituency boundaries.
He was the sitting MP for Richmond, a role he has held since 2015, and by winning the new constituency he avoided becoming the first sitting Prime Minister to lose his seat in Parliament.
Where did Niko Omilana enter the election?
Omilana came eighth in the race to become MP for Richmond and Northallerton – winning just 0.3 per cent of the vote.
He finished behind Rishi Sunak of the Conservatives (23,059 votes), Tom Wilson of Labor (10,874), Lee Taylor of Reform UK (7,142), Daniel Callaghan of the Lib Dems (4,322), Kevin Foster of the Green Party (2,058), Count Binface party member Count Binface and independent candidate Brian Richmond.
The YouTuber also pulled off a stupid stunt during Sunak’s speech congratulating Labor on its landslide victory.
As the former prime minister apologized for his party’s loss, Omilana stood behind him holding a piece of paper with the letter “L” – meaning “loser” – printed on it.
When did he run for Mayor of London?
In April 2021, Omilana announced that he would run for mayor of London.
On April 2, 2021, he shared a video on Instagram urging his (then) 1.1 million followers to vote for him in the 2021 London mayoral election.
He said: “I am Niko Omilana, founder and supreme leader of the Niko Defense League and I am running for Mayor of London.
“As you can see, I’m taking this very seriously, everything so far has been a warm-up, a light run, a walk in the park, but now we’re about to conquer the biggest city in the country.
“There is no greater leader in this country than me, so please, my friends, vote for Niko for Mayor of London on May 6th… or your breath stinks!
“Make sure you’re registered to vote too, you won’t want to miss this one.”
He shared his full manifesto on Twitter, which included telling Boris Johnson to “shut up” and outlined his plan to rename Big Ben.
Although Omilana was not elected mayor, he came fifth, beating some much bigger names in politics such as Laurence Fox and Piers Corbyn.
