The new prime minister has announced that he will visit all four nations of the United Kingdom, arguing that he has secured a national mandate with his landslide election victory.

Sir Keir Starmer has confirmed he will travel to Scotland first, before heading to Northern Ireland, Wales and back to England, in an effort to improve working relations.

Giving his first Downing Street press conference since taking office, the Labor leader also said “mission delivery” councils would be created to deliver on Labour’s priorities, including economic growth, which he would chair.

He was talking after holding his first cabinet meetingwhere he emphasized to his your main team there was a lot of work to do.

Sir Keir said his party’s election victory gave Labor a “clear mandate to govern all four corners of the United Kingdom”.

He said: “For the first time in over 20 years we have a majority in England, Scotland and Wales and that is a clear mandate to govern all four corners of the United Kingdom and so I will leave tomorrow to be in all four nations.”

He said he would meet prime ministers and “set out a way of working across the UK that would be different and better to the way of working we have had in recent years and that would recognize the contributions of all four nations”.

Sir Keir added: “At the cabinet meeting I also discussed mission delivery, how we would put into action the plans we had set out in our manifesto and that we will have mission delivery councils to drive the change we need, and that I will chair these councils to make sure it’s clear to everyone that they are my priority in government.”

He continued: “I reminded the entire cabinet that we will be judged by actions, not words.”

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Labor government’s commitment to economic growth, which his administration relies on to make vital investments in public services without raising taxes or borrowing more money.

As part of this, he would meet with elected regional mayors of all parties so that “those who are in the game know what is best for their communities.”

Sir Keir said: “There is no monopoly on good ideas. I am not a tribal politician. And the principle that I operate on, whether mayors or other elected representatives, is that where regional leaders want to fulfill their area, then regardless of the color of the rosette of them, my door is open.

“My government will work with them.”

He added: “So this will be a policy and a government that is about delivery, about service.

“Self-interest is yesterday’s politics. I want a politics and a country that works for you.”

He joked that he’s not “completely undone” yet, but will soon be at No. 10.

“I have a basic understanding of the rooms I’ve used so far here,” he said smiling.

He held his first cabinet meeting in Downing Street early on Saturday – telling his ministers: “We now get on with our work.”

Next week Sir Keir will make his debut on the international stage when he travels to Washington DC for the NATO leaders summit.

His office will focus on the first six steps set out in the Labor manifesto: delivering economic stability, reducing NHS waiting times, launching a new border security command, creating Great British Energy, cracking down on anti-social behavior and recruit 6,500 teachers.

In his first speech as Prime Minister on Friday, Sir Keir promised that “the work of change begins immediately”.

Labor won overwhelming victory – securing 412 seats, with the Conservatives obtaining 121 – the worst result in their history.
