Birmingham Airport has temporarily suspended operations due to an “aircraft security incident”.

A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said: “The aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew disembarked.

“All traveling customers should go to the airport and check in as normal.”

Images from the scene showed several emergency vehicles on the tarmac as the plane – which appeared to be an Aer Lingus aircraft – landed.

A short time later, what appeared to be passengers and crew were seen leaving the aircraft in single file when two white buses arrived to evacuate them from the area.

Meanwhile, several flights scheduled to depart Birmingham this evening have been delayed or cancelled, according to the airport’s website.

It is unclear whether these delays are due to the incident or not.
