Hertfordshire Police have now launched a manhunt for Kyle Clifford, 26, who is wanted in connection with the Horror.

Strength confirmed the suspect may still be armed and asked anyone who saw him to call 999 immediately.

They also said it is believed he may be in possession of a crossbow.

Detective Superintendent Rob Hall from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Crime Unit said: “This is an incredibly difficult incident for the families of the victims and we ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with what has happened.

“Although we are still in the early stages of this investigation, we are actively searching for Kyle Clifford, who we believe may be in the Hertfordshire or North London areas.

“Given the seriousness of the incident, I would urge anyone who knows where he is to contact the police immediately.

“If you believe you have seen him, please do not approach him and dial 999 immediately. He may still be in possession of a weapon.”

Stunned residents told how more than a dozen emergency vehicles were sent to the quiet residential street last night.

One person said: “It’s up my road Ashlyn Close. It’s isolated. There were 11 police cars, an armed response unit, 4 ambulances and a fire engine.

“We are not allowed to park in our garage and had to park on the corner. Whatever happened, it’s really bad and everyone is shaken.”

Another resident said there was a “large police presence” in the area.

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, the Hazardous Area Response Team and two air ambulances were sent to the scene.

Louise Nicolas, Alan Matthews and Paul Richards, local councilors in the area, paid tribute to the women.

They said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news that three women have lost their lives in a violent incident that occurred in the heart of our local community.

“As North Bushey councillors, we extend our thoughts and condolences to their families and everyone affected.

“We encourage anyone who has information relevant to the investigation to contact police.”

Herts Police have told anyone who has been in Ashlyn Close since lunchtime yesterday to call 101 quoting Op Infauna.
