What we know so far…

  • A manhunt has been launched after three women were found ‘murdered’ in a house in Bushey
  • The victims are the wife and daughters of a BBC star
  • Suspect Kyle Clifford is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of one of the women
  • Police are searching the Enfield area where Clifford lives after a car he allegedly used was found

The trio, believed to be related, tragically died at the scene despite the best efforts of doctors.

A murder investigation was quickly launched, along with a manhunt for suspect Kyle Clifford.

It is understood the three women were related to BBC Five Live racing commentator John Hunt.

O Telegraph reported that the dead women were believed to be the star’s wife and two daughters.

One of the victims was identified locally as Carol Hunt, 61, and her daughter Hannah.

It said John, who has worked for the broadcaster for two decades, was working for the Beeb on Tuesday and could have returned home to discover the horror.

Online Mail reports that Clifford was the ex-boyfriend of one of Hunt’s daughters.

At a press conference at 12.30pm, Hertfordshire Police said they were still searching for the suspect.

The force confirmed that Clifford, who is from Enfield, north London, may still be armed and urged anyone who saw him to call 999 immediately.

They also said it is believed he may have been in possession of a crossbow and may have used other weapons in the “targeted” attack.

Appealing directly to Clifford today, Detective Superintendent Rob Hall of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Crime Unit said: “Kyle, if you are seeing or hearing this please contact the police on 999.”

Herts Police have told anyone who has been in Ashlyn Close since lunchtime yesterday to call 101 quoting Op Infauna.

DSI Rob Hall said: “This is an incredibly difficult incident for the families of the victims and we ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with what has happened.

“Although we are still in the early stages of this investigation, we are actively searching for Kyle Clifford, who we believe may be in the Hertfordshire or North London areas.

“Given the seriousness of the incident, I would urge anyone who knows where he is to contact the police immediately.

“If you believe you have seen him, please do not approach him and dial 999 immediately. He may still be in possession of a weapon.”

It comes after horrified neighbors said they heard screams last night.

Francis Turner told The Sun: “My husband and I were watching football when we heard sirens and shouting. There were about 30 police officers outside.

“There were armed police officers. They came and knocked on our door and told us to stay inside and keep the doors closed.

“My heart goes out to them. I feel very sad for the family, my heart goes out to them.”

A neighbor, who did not want to be named, said he heard screams before “at least 16 police cars” appeared at the scene.

They added: “It was between 6.30pm and 7pm last night and it literally sounded like children, someone screaming, and then it got louder and I thought, ‘that’s definitely a woman screaming’, and within 15 minutes, it was absolute chaos.

“We had armed police running around, shouting ‘stay in your house’…. they isolated us and basically put us in lockdown.”

Another resident, Dereck Turner, who took a photo of armed police outside, said: “It’s a very quiet and peaceful area, it’s close to everything, when a house comes up it disappears.”

Latest police statement

In his latest update, Superintendent Jon Simpson confirmed the force believes the horror was “a targeted incident”.

“Police were called to a property near Ashlyn just before 7pm last night. Officers attended alongside colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service and on arrival found three women with serious injuries.

“Sadly, despite their best efforts, the women, believed to be relatives, died a short time later at the scene.

“The victims are aged 25, 28 and 61. Our overall objective today is to protect public safety and locate Kyle Clifford, who is wanted in connection with the murder of the three women, in what we believe to be a targeted incident.

“We have extensive police resources deployed to a number of locations in North London and the Bushey area of Hertfordshire.

“The manhunt also involves armed police and specialist search teams responding quickly to what was a horrific incident involving what is currently believed to be a crossbow, but other weapons may also have been used.

“If members of the public see Kyle Clifford, they are encouraged not to approach him at any time and to call 999 immediately.

“Kyle, if you are seeing or hearing this, please contact the police on 999.

“Following an immediate search operation, a major criminal inquiry was launched and we are also appealing to the public for any information in relation to the incident.

“It is clear that this incident will be of concern to local residents. Additional local officers will be in the area today.”
