Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is in “intensive care” after a serious illness.

The keyboardist and composer was touring as part of The Smile with colleagues radio head singer Thom Yorke and Sons Of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner.

The 52-year-old British musician’s illness meant the supergroup was forced to cancel the European leg of their tour.

A statement from The Smile said Oxford-born Greenwood was “seriously ill” and would “be returning home soon”, but added that doctors had advised he needed to rest.

The band has confirmed that all ticket holders will be refunded upon purchase.

A statement posted by The Smile on X said: “A few days ago, Jonny became seriously ill with an infection requiring emergency hospital treatment, some of it in intensive care.

“Fortunately he is now out of danger and will soon return home.

“We have been instructed by the medical team responsible for Jonny’s care to cancel all appointments until he has time to fully recover.

“To that end, the Smile tour of Europe in August has been cancelled.”

It added: “Refunds for headline shows will be available from your ticket supplier.

“We all wish Jonny a speedy recovery.”

The band released two UK top 10 albums in A Light For Attracting Attention and Wall Of Eyes.

The band was scheduled to play venues in Switzerland, Sweden, Germany and Poland next month.
