Dozens of firefighters rushed to the house and worked to battle the flames – while paramedics rushed to the scene.

The London Fire Brigade said a child was one of six people injured in the inferno.

Tragically, the young man, whose age and gender were not confirmed, could not be saved and died.

Five other people were rushed to hospital after the inferno on Napier Road.

Assistant Commissioner Patrick Goulbourne said today: “This is a terribly sad incident and the thoughts of all of us at London Fire Brigade are with the family, friends and everyone affected at this difficult time.

“The team will be out in the local community over the next few days to offer support and advice where needed.

“The wellbeing of our staff is very important and everyone involved will receive support from our trauma and counseling service.”

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Six trucks and more than 60 firefighters fought the fire, which was brought under control within half an hour.

Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz said before the tragic news: “Our thanks go to our London Fire Brigade team in Newham London for their quick response to this serious fire incident in East Ham.

“Officers attended alongside LFB colleagues.

“Unfortunately, one person was found dead inside the property. Inquiries are ongoing to locate his next of kin.

“Another five people were taken to hospital, where they remain injured.

“Several local roads have been closed while emergency services deal with the fire.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 8.30am today (July 13) to reports of a fire in Napier Road, East Ham.

“We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, advanced paramedics, members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and London Air Ambulance.

“Sadly, despite the efforts of our emergency services teams and partners, one person died at the scene. Five people were transported to a major trauma center as a priority.”
