The Football Association has published a job advert for England’s next manager, with candidates told they must be capable of “winning a major tournament”.
Former coach Gareth Southgate quit following England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final five days ago.
The FA, which said it had “already identified a number of candidates”, has now shared an advert for the head coach of the England men’s senior team.
According to the job description, any candidate will be expected to “win a major tournament” for the first time since the 1966 World Cup, and also be sure to England is “consistently ranked as one of the best teams in the world”.
Southgate’s record compared to other England managers
The next England coach is also expected to “have significant experience in English football, with a strong record of results in the Premier League and/or major international competitions.”
Other requirements include having “experience in identifying, managing and developing qualified English players” as well as being “highly resilient and comfortable in a high-level role with intense public scrutiny”.
The deadline for entries is August 2, just over a month before England face the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League on September 7.
Sky News sports correspondent Rob Harris previously reported that the FA plans interview several coaches that meet the job criteria.
He noted that the FA was prepared for Southgate to leave, despite wanting to keep the manager who led England to consecutive Euro finals.
But Southgate decided to step down after Sunday’s game defeat to Spain in Berlin. Harris previously reported that the former coach had a “exhausted behavior at times in Germany”.

Happens as speculation grows who could replace Southgatewith former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino linked to the role.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter have also been named as possible successors.
England Under-21 manager Lee Carlsley could also follow in the previous manager’s footsteps and become head coach.
