A 13-year-old schoolboy was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car near Asda as police launched an investigation

A boy was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car on his way to school this morning.

The 13-year-old was seriously injured following the crash in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Emergency services were rushed to the road, near an Asda branch, at around 8.20am.

Footage from the scene showed emergency services spread out across the road with an air ambulance nearby.

West Yorkshire Police are now investigating the crash.

The force said: “Police received a report of a collision on Asdale Road, Wakefield, at 8.26am this morning, involving a car and a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian, a teenager, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The road is currently closed whilst investigations continue at the scene.”

Yorkshire Ambulance Service added: “An ambulance and an air ambulance were sent to the scene and a patient was transported to hospital by road.”
