SIX people, including two children, died in a collision between a car and a motorcycle.
The road traffic accident happened on the A61 Barnsley Road between Wakefield and Barnsley this afternoon.
Emergency services received reports of a crash involving a Ford Focus car and a motorcycle at 3.54pm.
A man and a woman, along with a boy and a girl, who were traveling in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A man and a woman who were on the motorcycle were also confirmed dead.
Images taken after the horror crash show the burnt wreckage of the car.
The vehicle appears to have caught fire on the side of the road, charring a nearby hedge.
Debris could also be seen scattered across the main road following the collision.
The road was closed between Shaw Lane and Warren Lane, West Yorkshire Police said.
Superintendent Alan Travis, of Wakefield District Police, said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of six lives.
“Our thoughts are with the families of those who died, who we are working with to provide support at this time.”
Officers are asking all witnesses to come forward.
