A man has been arrested following a fatal house fire in east London, the Metropolitan Police said.

Police were called to a property on Oval Road North in Dagenham at 5.40pm on Saturday to reports of a fire.

Firefighters and paramedics also attended and, after forcing entry, found the body of a 70-year-old man.

Police are still working to inform his family.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, with homicide detectives leading the police investigation.

Police have not said what crime the suspect is accused of, but he remains in custody.
