A woman has died after being attacked while walking her dog in Suffolk.

Anita Rose, 57, was found unconscious by a member of the public lying on a track near Rectory Lane, Brantham, at around 6.25am on Wednesday.

Rose left the house at around 5am to take her springer spaniel, named Bruce, for a walk.

She suffered a head injury and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for treatment but died this morning.

Rose’s family paid tribute to her in a statement, saying: “Our mother was well known and loved in the community. She was brutally taken from us in a devastating way too soon, and we wasted too much time with her.

“She was not only a mother of six children, she was also a grandmother of 13, a long-time partner, a mother-in-law and a special friend to many. Someone somewhere must know something, and we encourage them to come forward.

“We want to thank everyone for the love and support. All we ask is that everyone values the time they spend with their family and loved ones.”

Suffolk Police said a 45-year-old man from the Ipswich area was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been arrested again on suspicion of murder.

A 37-year-old woman from the Ipswich area was also arrested yesterday on suspicion of handling stolen goods in connection with the incident.

The pair have since been released on police bail with conditions to return on October 25.

The force said officers located and recovered a missing Apple iPhone, but the pink zip-up jacket that police believe Ms Rose was wearing before the attack is still missing.

Detective Superintendent Mike Brown said: “This is a very serious incident, following which Anita sadly died from her injuries.

“The family continues to be supported by specially trained police officers as part of the investigation.”

“The investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crime continues, as do inquiries to establish the cause of death.”
