Harris, who was 29, began her relationship with Willie Brown, then 60, in 1994, while Brown was serving as speaker of the California Assembly.

Brown, who was married at the time, had been separated from his wife – Blanche – since 1982. reports Time Magazine.

“Over the course of their relationship, Brown gave Harris a BMW, she traveled with him to Paris, she attended the Oscars,” wrote journalist Dean Morain in his 2021 book Kamala’s Way: An American Life.

The pair’s relationship was well known in the San Francisco area, with local newspapers calling Harris “the speaker’s new companion” or Brown’s “frequent companion.”

Shortly before his term expired in November 1994, Brown appointed Harris to the California Health Care Commission.

The US Sun has reached out to Harris and Brown for comment.

In 2019, the Texas native opened up about his relationship with Harris and the role he played in his career.

“Yes, we dated,” he said in an op-ed for Chronicle of San Francisco.

“Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was Speaker of the Assembly. And I certainly helped in his first race for district attorney in San Francisco.”

Harris, 59, was elected district attorney in 2003 and served for seven years before becoming California’s attorney general in 2010.

After four years in office, the Californian was re-elected and served three more years before joining the US Senate in 2017.

Brown, now 90, recently supported Harris’ bid to become the Democratic nominee in the 2024 presidential election.

“She’s going to deport me,” laughed Brown while talking to Political.

“She might send me back to Mineola,” he continued before adding “Sending me back to Texas would be a move!”

Kamala Harris’ potential running mates

Kamala Harris accepted Joe Biden’s endorsement for the Democratic presidential nomination after the president ended his re-election bid on July 21.

Harris said he plans to win and win the Democratic nomination while uniting the party.

Who are Kamala Harris’ potential running mates?

  • Pete Buttigieg: U.S. Secretary of Transportation Buttigieg ran for president during the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries, competing against Kamala Harris and Joe Biden.
  • He was widely considered a breakout star, becoming the first openly gay candidate to win a presidential primary or caucus when he narrowly won the Iowa caucus during the 2020 primaries.
  • Buttigieg was one of the first Democrats to formally endorse Kamala Harris after President Biden.
  • In his statement, Buttigieg said Harris was “the right person to take up the torch, defeat Donald Trump and succeed Joe Biden as president.”
  • Andy Beshear: Governor Beshear has carved out a successful career in the heavily Republican state of Kentucky.
  • The 46-year-old two-term governor fully supported Harris for president and said he would consider being her running mate.
  • Gretchen Whitmer: Michigan Governor Whitmer is seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party.
  • In 2020, the two-term governor caught the eye of Joe Biden as a possible running mate before ultimately choosing Harris.
  • Whitmer joined the growing list of Democrats who have supported Harris for president.
  • A Harris-Whitmer campaign would be the first female candidate for a U.S. political party.
  • Gavin Newsom: Prominent California Governor Newsom’s name has long been associated with a potential presidential candidate in the upcoming election.
  • Newsom has already endorsed Harris for president, saying, “No one is better at prosecuting the case against Donald Trump’s dark vision.”
  • But there could be a problem if Harris and Newsom are in the same position.
  • Both Newsom and Harris come from Californiaand according to the 12th Amendment to the Constitution, both members of a presidential ticket “shall not be inhabitants of the same state.”
  • If Harris chose Newsom as her running mate, they would lose all 54 of California’s Electoral College votes.
  • Josh Shapiro: Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, is a rising star in the Democratic Party establishment.
  • His shares soared after achieving victory in the state’s 2022 gubernatorial election, defeating Republican rival Doug Mastriano.
  • Shapiro’s margin of victory was greater than Joe Biden’s when he defeated Donald Trump in 2020.
  • Pennsylvania is one of the swing states that Trump is trying to win.
  • Trump allies said NBC News that they think Shapiro would be a super strong running mate for Harris.
  • Marco Kelly: Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, 60, is also named as a front-runner.
  • He has significant military experience, having been a Navy combat pilot and a former astronaut.
  • Harris’ allies believe he could help win over working-class voters and also keep Arizona.
  • Arizona is one of the Sun Belt states the Trump campaign is targeting.

He is the latest of several voices, including former President Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and other high-ranking officials, to support Harris’ campaign.

Despite the endorsement, Brown says Harris will face several challenges on her path to the White House.

One of them is what Brown called “Hillary syndrome.”

“People don’t like her,” Brown added, saying that, unfortunately, there was no solution.

The chorus of support comes nearly a month before the Democratic National Convention.

Since being endorsed by President Joe Biden earlier this month, Harris has wasted no time in launching a campaign against Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Since announcing her campaign, Harris has held a rally in the swing state of Georgia, where she criticized Trump for pulling out of a debate with her.

With just 96 days until the election, Harris’ group has yet to announce a running mate.

However, people close to Harris revealed that she is looking at a wide range of candidates for the role.

According to the list, Harris has her eyes on U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshar and California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Other potential picks include Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

If Harris decides to select Whitmer, it would be the first all-female ticket for a political party.
