THIS is the moment predator Huw Edwards is filmed at a busy train station by an angry stepfather after paying his son £35,000 for sexual photos.

It happened in May last year and led to the initial Sun story that exposed the 62-year-old’s depraved secret life for the first time.

The former News at Ten anchor admitted this week to receiving sexual abuse videos of children as young as seven.

Our new revelation comes as BBC colleagues – including former royal editor Jennie Bond – have called on Edwards to repay the £200,000 salary he received following his arrest last November.

The stepfather of the young man Huw Edwards paid £35,000 for sexual photos has revealed the extraordinary moment he tried to confront the newsreader at a train station.

He rushed there after being alerted by his partner to a secret meeting between the then News At Ten presenter and his vulnerable son.

By chance, the mother saw messages from Edwards suggesting he wanted the young man to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

The stepfather told The Sun: “I was so angry. I just wanted to confront him and tell him to stop doing what he was doing.

“I didn’t even care if I got arrested – I wanted everyone to know what was going on.”

However, he arrived on the wrong platform but managed to film Edwards across the tracks before the BBC star boarded another train.

The stepfather immediately lodged an official complaint with the BBC about the TV star, but when he was rebuffed, he turned to The Sun for help.

This week, Edwards, 62, pleaded guilty in court to receiving sexual abuse videos of children as young as seven.

People blindly defended Huw Edwards just because the allegations were first published by The Sun, the broadcaster blew up

He faces the prospect of a prison sentence when he appears in court again next month.

Last night the stepfather, whose identity we are protecting, said of the disgraced broadcaster: “I always knew he was a paedophile.

“I think it’s disgusting that he doesn’t go to prison and only receives a suspended sentence. He has been a predator for years.”

His stepson, who had substance abuse problems, was 17 when Edwards began paying for sex photos.

And the dramatic rail encounter at Cardiff Central in May last year was sparked by the young man, then 20, who stormed out of the family home after a row with his mother.

They said they would meet Edwards to get £500.

The young man had already borrowed his mother’s iPhone to check Instagram messages.

Unfortunately, however – and without both of them knowing – the app was still connected to the mother’s iWatch.

The stepfather recalled: “About ten minutes after the young woman left the house with my partner’s old iPhone, her Apple watch vibrated on her wrist. She looked down and was shocked to see Huw Edwards’ name appear in an Instagram direct message.

“At that point she realized that her son was still logged into the app on his phone. She opened the Instagram app and accessed the messages.

“There was a chat with @thehuwedwards that she opened up.

“And she was shocked to discover that Edwards was planning to meet her son at a train station.

“She called me – I was working nearby – and I said I would try to get them.”

He said the messages also revealed that Huw wanted the young man to “sign some sort of non-disclosure agreement to keep quiet about their relationship”.

He continued: “I drove as fast as I could and told the train guards outside the barriers that I was there to meet someone from London and could I go to the platform?

“They told me it was platform three, but when I got there no trains were arriving. I couldn’t see him, so I left.”

The stepfather started to head back to work when his partner called again to say she saw from the messages that Edwards had just arrived at the police station.

The stepfather recalled: “I ran back and ran to the police station.

“I saw him going through the ticket barriers. I went up to platform three again, but there was no one there. It was a huge panic.

“Then I saw him on the opposite platform. I took out my phone and started filming it.

He recorded 30 seconds of footage, seen by The Sun, of the BBC star waiting on the platform.

His stepfather yelled at him before Edwards, wearing a blazer and carrying a bag under his arm, hurried away.

He said: “I just wanted to tell him to leave my partner’s son alone and stop sending money.”

Meanwhile, his partner sent a message to his son telling him that his stepfather was on his way to the police station.

This is believed to have been passed on to Edwards, who boarded the next train back to London without the meeting taking place.

The stepfather then said he tried to lodge a complaint with the BBC offices but was initially misled.

He recalled: “When I couldn’t confront him, I left straight from the station and went to the BBC.

“I tried to explain what was happening. But the security guards at the door said I was being aggressive. I wasn’t, but I was so nervous. I was panicked, not aggressive.

“I demanded to speak to a manager or director, anyone who worked at the BBC, but they said there was no one there and they were all in London.

“Someone came out saying he was the head of the security team. I shouted, ‘I want to talk to someone about Huw Edwards because he’s a scavenger.’ They gave me a BBC London number.

“It turned out to be a wrong number. I think they just wanted to push me away.

The family was eventually referred to the BBC’s Audience Services, who sent the case to the Corporate Investigations team.

BBC INVESTIGATION

The BBC later admitted it made a call to the couple, but there was no call.

The family then turned to The Sun in the hope that we could help them get Edwards to stop.

We published the shocking story in July last year, saying an unidentified BBC star was paying a young man for sexual photos.

Edwards was suspended amid a media frenzy before his wife nominated him.

A BBC investigation has been launched into its star presenter, who announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II and led coverage of the King’s Coronation.

Meanwhile, a report released in February by Deloitte auditors detailed how the family’s complaint was not brought to the attention of senior managers.

There was also “insufficient” documentation of attempts to contact them.

In April, Edwards resigned, with the family still begging the BBC for answers after it closed its investigation.

The stepfather said: “From that first day of trying to confront Huw until now, we haven’t stopped – no matter how difficult it has been for us. Everyone knows the truth now.”

He added: “We want a public apology from everyone who has ever doubted us or attacked us for speaking out.”

The BBC continued to pay Edwards’ £480,000 license fee-funded salary until he resigned.

Amid an outcry for part of the disgraced star’s salary to be returned, questions have been raised about how much the BBC knew when it was informed of his arrest last November over child sex images.
