PROTESTS have broken out across the UK – with punches thrown and windows smashed as Britain braces for a weekend of chaos.

The demonstrations come after a shocking night of violence in Sunderland, where a police station was set on fire and officers were injured.

Today, protests have erupted in Manchester, Leeds, Hull, Stoke and Liverpool.

More demonstrations are expected following a wave of violent riots sparked by fake news online alleging that the alleged knife killer of three girls was a Muslim asylum seeker.

Far-right thugs marched through Manchester this morning and quickly clashed with counter-protests from anti-racism groups.

Police arrested two men and issued a dispersal order as hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Manchester city center.

Around 200 people gathered in Piccadilly Gardens for a protest titled “Defend your country: enough is enough”.

A counter-protest – ‘Stop The Far Right’ – is also being held, with around 350 people taking part.

  • Protests continue in Blackpool

A sea of police officers is separating opposing groups as local residents continue to gather outside Blackpool Town Hall this afternoon.

People were seen with English flags draped around them as they chanted for the officers.

There is no dispersal order in effect at this time.

  • Police in riot gear at demonstrations in Liverpool

Objects were thrown during chaotic scenes in Liverpool today.

Police are working to break up the protest as people wave banners that read “Not far right, just a father” and “Two Tier Keir”.

  • Police stand between rival protesters in Leeds

Increasing numbers of people are gathering outside Leeds City Hall and a local art gallery.

Police officers formed a barrier to separate two groups of protesters.

Far-right groups were seen waving St George’s flags, while a counter-protest held by Stand Up to Racism held signs that read “Say it loud and clear, refugees are welcome here”.

  • Demonstrations in Belfast

Far-right young people gathered in front of a mosque and threw objects at the press.

Protesters also broke the windows of a local cafe amid the growing chaos.

  • Hotel windows broken in protest in Hull

Protesters broke windows of hotels used to house asylum seekers.

Bandits threw concrete bricks and glass bottles at the building while shouting “get them out of here”.

  • Two men arrested today in Manchester

Manchester Police issued a Section 34 dispersal warning across the city center, giving officers extra powers until 7pm on Saturday.

The force arrested two men for public order offences.

Police formed a division between hundreds of protesters in an effort to prevent violence as chaos swept the northern city.
