THE MYSTERY surrounding the search for a missing British man has deepened with his sister believing he flew from Thailand to a destination 5,000 miles away.

Simon Robinson, 27, was feared missing in Bangkok with his distraught family believed he never boarded the plane home on July 26 despite his phone ringing just minutes from the airport.

But now sister Sarah Robinson Dale says they have confirmed he boarded a jet – although it appears he ended up in Finland rather than returning home to Lincolnshire.

This means the search spanned an impressive 8,000 kilometers, from Southeast Asia to the Arctic Circle.

In a Facebook post, Sarah said: “We have received confirmation that Simon boarded the flight on 26th July.

“A huge thank you to everyone who shared and to the kind people who discovered this information as authorities on both sides did nothing.

“I’m waiting for a call from the police and the embassy in Helsinki.”

South Yorkshire Police confirmed on Monday that Simon’s case had been reported to them, but said they had not issued their own missing persons appeal.

Sarah said the information about Simon boarding the plane leaving Thailand came despite “the UK police confirming it was not”.

The Sun has again contacted South Yorkshire Police for comment.

The family’s new theory comes after they were contacted by a man claiming to be a Thai immigration officer.

They were told that Simon was on flight AY142 – Finnair’s Bangkok-Helsinki route.

Sarah said she had “confirmed” that Simon flew to Finland, but did not reveal how.

Finnair said it could not provide any customer information in response to a request from The Sun to verify Simon’s flight details.

Simon originally flew to Thailand on July 22nd and wasn’t due home until August 3rd.

But on July 26, he called his girlfriend to tell her he would be coming home early, according to The Lincolnite.

He has not been heard from since.

Simon’s friend Sam Champ had previously taken to social media to raise awareness.

He wrote: “One of my dear friends disappeared in Bangkok, no news from him since July 26th.

“He was supposed to board a flight that day and didn’t show up. Yesterday was his 27th birthday and everyone is very worried.

“He was reported as a missing person.

“I have attached a photo of him, his name is Simon Robinson and he is from Lincolnshire.

“If anyone could share this post with someone in Bangkok or Thailand, I would be very grateful.”

The Foreign Office said it was ready to help any Briton on foreign soil, but did not comment on Simon’s case.

The international police organization Interpol said it does not comment on specific cases unless there are “special circumstances” or approval from the missing person’s country.

It comes after Australian tourist Kieran James Cramer, 28, also went missing in Thailand in July.

He was eventually found in Bangkok, but mystery still surrounds his disappearance.

Another Briton missing in July disappeared on the Italian island of Sardinia.

Michael Frison, 25, allegedly left his home in Sardinia “naked” before disappearing, according to his worried mother.

Young lawyer Ben Ross, 26, disappeared in Mallorca around the same time.

The Greater Manchester man was found alive after almost two weeks.
