Man dies after being shot multiple times in the back on Columbus’ East Side

A man died after being shot multiple times Tuesday night on the city’s East Side.

Columbus police received a call around 7:51 p.m. reporting a man who had been shot multiple times in the back in the 1200 block of South Hamilton Road, a Columbus police 911 dispatcher confirmed.

Responding officers arrived on scene and found the male victim with gunshot wounds, the dispatcher said.

The victim was transported by Columbus firefighters in critical condition to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m., according to a dispatcher.

Columbus police homicide detectives and crime scene technicians responded to the scene.

Police closed a portion of South Hamilton Road between East Mound Street and Melroy Avenue.
