A HUGE earthquake has rocked Japan, triggering a tsunami warning.
The tsunami is expected to hit the southern region of the country within the next 30 minutes after the magnitude 7.1 earthquake.
Warnings have been issued for several areas on the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku – including Kagoshima and Ehime, according to public broadcaster NHK.
Authorities urged people to immediately move to higher ground as one-metre waves were expected to hit the coast.
The 6.9-magnitude quake was followed by a 7.1-magnitude quake on the island of Kyushu at a depth of 18 miles (29 kilometers), the U.S. Geological Survey said.
It comes after Japan was hit by a devastating earthquake on New Year’s Day – leaving 318 people dead and thousands of homes destroyed.
The 7.6 magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami with waves reaching heights of 21 feet.
Three people are still missing after the disaster.
