A CrossFit Games competitor has died while participating in a swimming event.

Lazar Dukic was racing at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday morning when he disappeared underwater.

Emergency services were called around 8am local time to report that “there was a participant in the water who was down and had not been seen for some time.”

After launching a search with a diving team and drones, the athlete’s body was found about an hour after the first divers entered the water.

The rest of the events on the first day of games were canceled after the death.
