RUSSIAN citizens in Belgorod were urged to take shelter in their basements following the triumphant invasion of Ukraine.

Some 121,000 people fled Kursk when Vladimir Putin’s friendly governor admitted that Kiev’s forces now control 28 towns in the border region.

As Ukraine advances its stunning invasion into a second region, Belgorod, local citizens are also being told to evacuate.

Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote in a Telegram message on Monday: “The entire territory of the Belgorod region is a MISSILE HAZARD.

“Go down to the basement. Stay there until you get the ‘all clear of missile hazard’ signal.”

Around 11,000 people were evacuated from the Krasnoyaruzhsky district of Belgorod, Russia TASS reports.

Footage appeared to show them being herded onto evacuation buses by soldiers, as local official Andrey Miskov said there were only 500 residents left.

The clip showed huge trainers lined up, ready to take them to temporary accommodation.

Russian officials said they were evacuated due to the “active” presence of the Ukrainian army in the area.

Ukrainian forces also launched a tank offensive towards the Kolotilovka area of Belgorod on Monday morning, about 39 kilometers south of Sudzha in Kursk.

A probably humiliated Vladimir Putin said today that his forces must “dislodge” Ukraine’s forces from the border regions.

Security was beefed up in Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod to try to prevent Kiev’s impressive penetration.

New blow to Putin as Ukraine continues to storm the border and MORE Russians surrender

The governor of Kursk, Alexei Smirnov, was forced to tell the Russian tyrant this afternoon how Ukraine now controls 28 villages in the region.

He said the invasion is now 12 kilometers deep along a 40-kilometer front line in Kursk.

Smirnov also said the number of civilians killed was 12, with 121 injured.

He claimed that Ukrainian forces were using chemical weapons projectiles in their raid – but did not provide any evidence to support it.

In a crucial meeting with senior security and defense officials, Putin insisted that the Kursk invasion is a failed attempt by Kiev to destabilize Russia.

But despite their claims, around 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers, supported by tanks and planes, successfully advanced almost 20 miles into Russia.

Ukrainian soldiers are even digging trenches along the new front line, apparently consolidating plans to attempt a long-term occupation.

Russian forces have rushed to reserve troops, tanks, aviation, artillery and drones for the borders in a bid to crush Ukraine.

But despite their desperate efforts, they admitted on Sunday that Ukraine had managed to reach 29 kilometers in some areas, including the villages of Tolpino and Obshchy Kolodez.

Putin appeared today at a large military showcase near Moscow, speaking in a video message to the audience through a huge screen.

Ukraine hit them hard where it hurts when they weren’t looking. He showed that, in fact, the Russian war machine is very basic

Colonel Hamish of Bretton Gordon

Former British tank commander Colonel Hamish de Bretton Gordon told The Sun: “Ukraine hit them hard where it hurts when they weren’t looking.

“And it’s becoming an absolute challenge. He showed that, in fact, the Russian war machine is very basic.

“Moscow is close enough to hear the screams and screams of Kursk.

“As long as the screams and screams are heard in Moscow, for me this will be an operational success for Kiev.”

He said Putin himself felt humiliated by Ukraine’s gains, as he “convenes cabinet meetings every two minutes” to talk about the disastrous incursion.

He told The Sun: “He, like Hitler, got involved in the minutiae. Putin is not a soldier. He was a spy.

“But he’s getting straight to the point and telling soldiers on the front line how to do their job, a job he doesn’t really understand, which I imagine is making things worse.

“He is also, no doubt, telling his generals: gather forces, take them to Kursk to block this gap.”

Hamish also highlighted that Putin and his crony generals have not yet had any success in repressing Ukraine’s efforts.

“We’ve been at this for a week,” he said, “and there have been no Russian counterattacks and no Russian forces.”

“We’ve been at this for a week,” he said, “and there have been no Russian counterattacks and no Russian forces.”

The spokespeople for Putin’s propaganda machine in Moscow, he explains, “seem to have lost their tongue.”

“Even the military bloggers and people in Moscow who are always on television saying, you guys, what a disaster the West is, they are silent, they seem to have lost their tongue.

“People at the base in Russia are now hearing about this. Putin told them: ‘I am the great military strategist, I can defeat everyone, you are absolutely safe.’

“But well, wait a minute, we know that 80,000 civilians are attacking towards the east because they are afraid of Ukraine.”
