Aug. 12—MORRIS — A 50-year-old Morris Funeral Home director died in a vehicle accident Friday in Stevens County.
According to a news release from the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, Shane Decker, of Morris, was found dead at the scene of the reported accident at approximately 8:57 p.m. on Friday, August 9. The accident occurred near Hancock, which is about 45 miles southwest. of Alexandria.
Two other occupants of the vehicle, Durgin Decker and Brett Hansen, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The accident is still under investigation.
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, University of Minnesota Morris Police, Morris Fire Department, Hancock Fire and First Responders and Stevens County Ambulance Service.
Shane Decker’s funeral will be held on Thursday, August 15, according to his obituary listing.
A former resident of Milnor, North Dakota, Decker graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1996 before moving to Oakes, North Dakota in 2000 to begin working in the funeral services industry.
In 2010, Decker took on the role of funeral director at Pedersen Funeral Home and Starbuck Funeral Home, before being promoted to director of regional operations for the parent company of both funeral homes in 2019.
“Shane supported, mentored and truly cared for countless people while in this role,” according to his obituary. “He always claimed his heart was two sizes too big; it wasn’t his fault he cared so much.”
