NYU Pro-Palestine Protests in Chaos as Cops ‘Make Arrests, Clear Tents’ Hours After Columbia Ends Classes

DOZENS of protesters were reportedly arrested Monday night at an encampment in New York City.

Hundreds of students and faculty created a “Gaza Solidarity Camp” in Gould Plaza at New York University early in the morning to organize a pro-Palestine protest.

It follows similar measures taken by students at Columbia University and other schools in the US.

Using megaphones, police officers ordered protesters to leave the area or face possible arrest, the student newspaper reported. Washington Square News.

Police lined up at the back of Gould Plaza in riot gear and detained protesters who disregarded their warnings.

Video from the scene showed dozens of people handcuffed as they were escorted through New York City Police Department.

The remaining protesters formed a circle around the tents to prevent the NYPD from dismantling the camp.

Another video appeared to show protesters standing at an intersection to impede the movement of an NYPD bus.

The bus reportedly contained arrested protesters.

This comes hours after Columbia University canceled in-person classes as protests reached their fifth day.

At Yale University in Connecticut, hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters blocked an intersection outside the Schwarzmann Center.

A spokesperson for police in New Haven said about 45 protesters were arrested at Yale on Monday morning and charged with trespassing.

All have been released and are expected to be in court At a later date.

Protests have erupted on college campuses since the deadly Oct. 7 Hamas attack in Israel.

Around 1,200 people were killed, most of them civilians, and around 250 people were taken hostage.

In response, more than 34,000 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.

US Sun has reached out to the NYPD for comment.
