A mother and her six-year-old son were electrocuted to death after she tried to pull him away from a faulty cable on a washing machine.
Diana Michelle Machado Santos da Silva, 30, and Pietro Vinicius Santos de Oliveira died at their home in Timon, a Brazilian municipality in the state of Maranhão, on Saturday, April 20.
Diana noticed her son was being electrocuted by the wiring and tried to save him, but was also electrocuted, according to police.
The teacher and her son were pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters were called to their home, in the Formosa neighborhood, in Timon, but Diana and Pietro’s bodies had already been removed by emergency services.
They were sent to the local morgue in an attempt to establish the exact causes and circumstances of their deaths.
Local police said: “The extension cord came into contact with an iron grille in the house, which was electrified by a bare wire.
“The child touched the railing and was shocked.”
The investigation is ongoing.
In December, another boy also tragically died from electrocution while putting up Christmas lights.
The lifeless body of Augusto Dalmaz Bonato, 10, was found next to decorations in his family’s home in Campo Largo, Brazil.
His parents called emergency services while his devastated sister, Carolina Dalmaz, tried to revive him.
Paramedics quickly arrived at the house and gave the boy first aid before taking him to the hospital.
He died in the ICU shortly after.
This happened after a pregnant teenager was electrocuted to death while trying to charge her phone after taking a shower.
Jennifer Karolayne, 17, and her unborn child died in the tragic incident at their home in Paraíba, Brazil.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in the city of Campina Grande after the victim’s husband raised the alarm.
But when paramedics arrived at her home in the early hours of August 17, Jennifer was already dead.
Her husband, who was not identified, said he heard an “unusually loud noise” and a scream before finding her unconscious on the floor.
