It’s not the first time that Beyoncé has left her mark on a dictionary. In 2004, the term “bootylicious” – popularized by Destiny’s Child’s hit of the same name, co-written by Beyoncé – was added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
Beyoncé reportedly said she wasn’t “proud” of the word, telling TV Hits magazine: “I wrote the song, but I wish there was another word I could have invented if I wanted to have a word in the dictionary. “
Other new additions to the dictionary include the English phrase “fast fashion”, “platisme” – the French term for the Flat Earth theory – and “trottinettiste”, a person who rides a scooter, or “trottinette”.
The Cambridge Dictionary declared “hallucinate” as the word of the year to 2023 due to its new alternative meaning related to the production of false information by AI.
