A search and rescue team recovered the bodies near where Jake Robinson, Callum Robinson and Jack Carter Rhoad were last seen in Baja California.

The team was made up of members of the anti-homicide unit and firefighters who arrived at the scene on Friday morning.

The bodies were found in a well near a cliff in Punta San José, in Santo Tomás, in the municipality of Ensenada, close to a remote surf spot known as Farol, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune.

A murder investigation is ongoing as investigators believe the trio were killed in a robbery attempt, according to Baja California State Attorney General Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez.

“When they tried to take the vehicle, the victims objected to the robbery, the thieves were armed with firearms and apparently shot the victims,” she told 7News, according to The Daily Mail.

Shell casings were also found at the camp where the three men were last seen.

Witnesses last saw the men on April 27 in the La Bocana area of ​​Santo Tomás, according to Baja California prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramirez.

Callum and Jake, brothers from Australia, were with Carter, an American, and the three traveled from San Diego, California.

The three surfers were on vacation in the municipality of Ensenada, in Baja, known as one of the most violent states in Mexico due to major organized crime.

Their mother, Debra Robinson, reported her children missing because they didn’t show up at their Airbnb over the weekend and contact was abruptly cut off.

During a news conference Thursday, Ramirez said police found the tourists’ white pickup truck on fire in the same area during a search.

They also found tents that would have belonged to the men.

“Right now, a team of investigators is at the location where it appears they were last seen, where tents were found along with some evidence that may be related to these three people included in the investigation,” Ramirez said.

The bodies had not been identified or confirmed as of Saturday.

‘A VERY DIRECT SITUATION’

Before the bodies were found during the search, Debra made a desperate post on Instagram.

“Australian friends Jake and Callum Robinson went missing in the Rosarita/Ensenada area of ​​Baja California Norte on Saturday morning,” she wrote.

She also highlighted the seriousness of the situation because Callum is diabetic.

“They were probably surfing. Callum is diabetic – this is a very terrible situation.”

Callum, a talented lacrosse player, moved to the United States to pursue his dreams.

Two brothers and a 23-year-old woman are being questioned by police, according to ABC News Australia.

A photo of the woman was released when she was found with the phones of one of the missing men and a bag of drugs, according to Ramirez.
