Australian police found the body of a man off the coast of Sydney while searching for a passenger from a cruise ship that fell into the sea on Monday.
The man fell into the sea before dawn near Sydney Heads, about 18 kilometers offshore, and police and other emergency services launched a search, New South Wales police said.
At around 10:30 am (00:30 GMT), officers located the body and recovered it, police said.
Police will now prepare a report for the coroner and begin an investigation into how the incident unfolded.
P&O Cruises’ Pacific Adventure ship was due to arrive in Sydney Harbor on Monday.
“We thank guests for their care, understanding and patience on what was a distressing day for guests and crew,” said a company statement, cited by local media. “Our thoughts are with the guest’s family at this difficult time.”
The ship was returning to Sydney after a three-day trip to Morton Island in Queensland.
