Joe Biden’s dog – which has bitten US intelligence agents several times – should be put down, a political opponent who wrote about shooting his own dog has suggested.

Kristi Noem, the governor of South Dakotawhich is verified as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate in the November election, admitted to shooting and killing Cricket, a 14-month-old wire-haired pointer, more than 20 years ago.

In her memoir, to be published this week, the Republican is said to detail how she killed the “extremely dangerous” puppy after the animal attacked and killed a neighboring family’s chickens.

In an interview on Sunday, she suggested the american presidentthe commander’s German shepherd should meet the same fate.

She told CBS News’ Face The Nation: “Joe Biden’s dog attacked 24 Secret Service people. So how many people are enough people to be attacked and seriously injured before you decide about a dog and what to do with it?”

Asked by host Margaret Brennan, who pointed out that the animal no longer lives at the White House, if she was suggesting that the dog be shot, Ms. Noem said: “What the president should be responsible for.”

In her book, Noem reportedly describes Cricket as “less than worthless” and “uncoachable”.

After shooting her dog, she reportedly killed her family’s goat, which she called “vile and evil,” reported The Guardian, which had an early copy of the book.

The governor, who has often defended her actions, despite widespread criticism, again justified her decision in the Sunday interview, saying: “I made a difficult choice. I think you are also a mother. And you have little children.

“Would you choose between your children or a dangerous animal? And I think I would ask everyone in the country to put themselves in that situation.”

Asked why she didn’t take the dog to a shelter instead of killing it, she said Cricket was a “working dog” that “came from a family that already had problems with this dog”.

“I didn’t ask someone else to take that responsibility for me… I had to make that decision myself,” she added.
