Most Americans are less inspired than ever at work, but the wow factor has a positive effect on productivity

MORE than a third of Americans have never felt as uninspired at work as they do now (38%), according to a new survey.

A survey carried out among 2,000 employed Americans concluded that this calm also translates into their productivity, as 38% of respondents feel only “a little” productive at work.

Four in 10 suburban respondents are also experiencing this drop in productivity (41%).

The results showed that your work environment plays a role in your productivity and found that many seek to refresh their work routines with breaks and increase productivity with community and exercise.

Conducted by Talker Research for Lifetime workLife Time’s coworking company, the survey found that 37% of those who have a work routine consider it obsolete, especially those who work entirely in person (39%).

According to those interviewed, the environment is important.

Sixty-two percent said that the people and community around their workspace have a positive effect on their productivity.

“Today, more than ever, both employers and employees are recognizing the connection between physical activity and mental acuity, and the ability to perform at your best,” said Brooks Hagen, senior director at Life Time Work.

“As a result, we are seeing demand from both leaders and team members for workspaces close to healthcare and athletic facilities to prioritize the ability to incorporate more into their regular wellness routine.”

When in a routine during the workday, respondents said their mood can improve if they get active and walk (33%) or exercise (19%).

However, one-fifth of employed Americans admit they exercise once a week or less (17%).

Nearly two-thirds of all respondents said that being active would make a difference in their ability to be more productive at work (64%).

“The idea of ​​activity-based workspace design is more relevant than it was five years ago,” said Hagen.

“Working in a space that actively encourages physical movement throughout the day is healthier and allows occupants to do their best work.

“Being part of a community at work also increases satisfaction levels and this carries over into accountability – knowing the people you work with means you’ll be more likely to show up.”

But to what extent can interviewees avoid becoming trapped in their work?

Thirty-nine percent “always” or “often” struggle to find time for themselves during the workday.

To maximize employee productivity, respondents said offices should have dedicated areas available, such as a quiet room (36%) and a gym or fitness space (23%).

Similarly, 70% said that the environment in which they work affects the quality of their work-related ideas, and they have had a good work-related idea in non-work-related areas such as the bed (33%), a coffee (21%) or the gym (14%).

If given the opportunity to take more breaks, respondents would especially prefer snack breaks (42%) or mental breaks (35%).

One in 10 respondents want more exercise breaks, with hybrid employees the most likely to want them.

Other experts have said that living as a screen can be harmful to your mental health.
