“Walmart has CLOSED all self-checkout lanes at our local California store. Now it takes at least TWICE as long in line. This state…Sucks!” a customer he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another user shared a similar sentiment, explaining how difficult it had become to leave the store in a timely manner.

“Checking out at @walmart is a fucking hassle right now! There are no human cashiers and the self-checkout line is ALWAYS fucking long! Who thought THIS was a good idea?!” a user tweeted.

These reactions came after the retailer announced it was getting rid of self-checkout at certain locations last month.

Many of the self-checkout lanes have been replaced with staffed cash registers.

“We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the opportunity to provide more personalized and efficient service,” said spokesman Brian Little. Business Insider.

“The decision was based on several factors, including feedback from associates and customers, purchasing patterns and business needs in this area. We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the opportunity to provide more personalized and efficient service. “, Little said, for KSDK.

Another spokesperson weighed in on the matter, saying the new policy would provide a better shopping experience for Walmart shoppers.

“We continually look for ways to provide our customers with the best shopping experience, and that includes adjusting the checkout area in stores,” said Walmart spokesman Josh Havens. Business Insider,

LONG LINES NO MORE

While customers at Walmart’s retail stores have had problems with long lines, its wholesale club, Sam’s Club, has been trying to rectify the situation.

In January, the company announced that it would get rid of receipt checks in favor of its new AI scanner.

The system can capture an image of the cart and verify purchases without creating the dreaded long queue.

“Both checkout technology and Scan & Go are driving new levels of convenience and increasing member satisfaction,” said Sam’s Club Chief Product Officer Todd Garner in a press release.

How does the Sam’s Club AI cart scanner work?

Sam’s Club has decided to stop checking customers’ receipts and instead use AI machines to scan carts.

Shoppers can pay at a cash register or use Sam’s Club Scan & Go through its app.

Once customers pay, at the club’s exit area, computer vision and digital technology take photos of the carts and verify payment for all items.

The company hopes this new method will reduce long wait times at receipt checks.

“At Sam’s Club, we care about every second a member spends with us, so eliminating even the few seconds it takes to scan a receipt at the checkout is worth it,” said Sam’s Club Chief Marketer Megan Crozier , during the Walmart Lecture.

“We want to be the most convenient place to shop.”

“What sets Sam’s Club apart from our competitors is our ability to implement this technology at scale in our nearly 600 clubs across the country.

“Whether it’s a single item or a full cart, we’re revolutionizing the checkout experience.”

Since the scanner was added to stores, people have been able to exit 23% faster.

The success of the new tool has prompted Sam’s Club to place the scanner in more than 120 locations, and Walmart customers want it too.

“Great idea. Use it at Walmart too. No more problems with employees fighting with customers who paid for all their items,” one person he wrote on Facebook.

“Next Walmart! There are never open human boxes!” someone else commented.

“Then stop trying to check my receipt at Walmart!” a third person wrote.
