A PASTOR who was almost shot but survived the harrowing incident has referred to his life’s struggle as God’s work.

Reverend Glenn Germany of Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church, located in North Braddock, Pennslyvania, 11 miles east of Pittsburgh, was mercilessly shot at – but a gun jam saved his life.

The attempted shooting occurred at around 1 pm on Sunday, while Germany was giving a sermon about the “enemies of God”.

The incident was recorded while the sermon was being broadcast live.

Police identified the suspect as Bernard Junior Polite, 26, who was arrested and taken in for questioning.

MIRACULOUSLY JAMMED

Germany explained in an interview the day after the shooting attempt how Polite pointed the gun directly at him, but it did not fire.

“He pulled the trigger and a miracle of God happened: the gun stuck,” said Germany Good Morning America on Monday.

“That bullet had a name.”

Germany said it was a miracle he was alive.

The church’s deacon, Clarence McCallister, also noticed Polite about to shoot Germany and knocked him down while pulling the jammed trigger.

“I just jumped up and … pulled his arm to the side and pinned him down,” McCallister told Good Morning America.

McCallister was seen on the live broadcast of the sermon snatching the gun from Polite.

Germany is grateful for McCallister’s courageous feat and said it was heroic.

“I think it was an act of heroism if I’ve ever seen one,” Germany said.

McCallister and other worshipers held Polite until police arrived.

Germany described the attempted shooting to local news after it occurred.

“I started preaching, and all of a sudden, on my left side, I saw him move from the back of the church to the front, and he sat down in the front corner of the church and smiled at me,” he told ABC affiliate WTAE.

“All of a sudden, I saw a gun pointed directly at me. And in that moment, all I could try to do was run for cover.”

“I’m grateful to God that I’m still here because he definitely pulled the trigger.

“I thought, this isn’t happening. I thank God because only God stopped and jammed his gun.”

Polite allegedly told police he shot Germany because “God told him to,” according to the complaint.

The suspect lives near the church and police discovered a twist after arresting him.

Police searched Polite’s home and found a 56-year-old man dead inside, according to a statement from the Allegheny Country Police Department.

The medical examiner’s office identified the man as Derek Polite.

It is unclear what the relationship was between Polite and the victim found in his home.

Polite is facing charges of recklessly endangering another person and aggravated assault.

There is also an investigation into Polite’s connection to Derek Polite’s death.
