CYNTHIA Nixon criticized President Joe Biden for his handling of the university protests.
In recent weeks, tensions between colleges have risen as protests against the war between Israel and Hamas have taken over campuses across the country. US while school and local leaders sent police to separate them.
And the crackdown, which began at Columbia University with 108 arrests on April 18, the day after protesters set up tents on a school lawn, has so far spread to 50 campuses.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has already begun issuing “interim suspensions and referrals to the Disciplinary Committee,” according to a statement from Chancellor Melissa Nobles.
Nixon, who once challenged Andrew Cuomo for governor of the new Yorkcriticized the president, both political parties and university leaders for turning a blind eye to the next generation.
“There is not enough listening in our country right now,” Nixon said on New York Women’s Foundation Celebrating Women’s Breakfast on Wednesday.
“Certainly not by the increasingly right-wing Republican Party, the party of Trump.”
She went on to detail how the party “spends all its energy” on legislation like Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “book ban” in Florida.
“But just as scary to me is how the Democrats in power aren’t listening either,” she continued.
“Our young people are our conscience and they are speaking as loudly as they can right now about the atrocities they witness every day in real time, and we are brutally punishing them for it.
“We need to lift up our young people, not violently arrest them or allow angry mobs to attack them.
“Or suspend them from school and kick them out of their homes after they have invested countless hours and tens of thousands of dollars.
This is not an America in which our young people can have hope.

“And unless our Democratic leaders, and yes, I’m talking to you, Joe Biden, start listening to our young people and addressing their concerns, I fear we could lose our democracy completely.”
Nixon shared the blunt statements during an acceptance speech for the NYWF Celebrating Women Awards.
“The last time I was here at this breakfast I was running for governor, and at that time, many people in the world at large were very afraid to interact with me, or even come close to me, for fear of the retribution they would face. from my highly vindictive opponent,” she explained upon accepting the award.
CHAOS ON CAMPUS
More than 2,400 people have been arrested on 46 different college campuses across the US in recent weeks following protests by anti-war groups who condemned the events in Gaza.
April 17th: Columbia President Minouche Shafik testifies before Congress about anti-Semitism on campus. Students set up Solidarity Camp in Gaza.
April 18: Shafik asks the NYPD to clear the camp. More than 100 anti-war protesters were arrested.
April 22nd: Columbia cancels classes. Protests spread to nearby New York University as well as Yale. Hundreds of prisoners.
April 25: Riot police sent to arrest anti-war protesters at the University of Texas at Austin. More than 50 detained.
April 27th: Protests have spread to campuses as far away as Arizona, Florida and Minnesota. More than 1,000 have already been arrested.
April 28: Violent clashes after pro-Israel groups attack anti-war camp at UCLA. Fireworks launched and new arrests made.
1st May: Police in New York invade Hamilton Hall, on the Columbia campus, after occupation by anti-war groups. Dozens of arrests were made.
may 2nd: Anti-war camp cleared at UCLA. Arrests reach 2,000 mark.
May 3: School leaders make deals with anti-war protesters, ending demonstrations at Brown, Northwestern and Rutgers.
The Emmy winner ran against Andrew Cuomo for governor of New York in 2018.
Cuomo infamously threatened to label political rivals who supported Nixon as only “better than a child rapist” during the tense primary.
Cuomo received nearly 66% of the vote, while Nixon retained 34%.
Since his defeat, Nixon has continued his work as an activist in political debate and a defender of LGBT rights.
