ANTI-THEFT tactics adopted by retailers are causing customers to fight back by revealing why they won’t show their receipt.

Walmart came under fire from a frustrated shopper who argued that his local store gave him no choice but to skip receipt checks.

The anti-theft method has been heavily criticized by countless buyers who feel criminalized by having to show their receipts at checkout.

However, with retailers struggling with losses of more than $100 billion every year due to shoplifting, the practice is unlikely to end anytime soon.

An angry shopper took to X, formerly Twitter, to denounce the country’s biggest retailer and its practices.

“Dear @Walmart, NO. You will never be able to check my receipt,” he said on publish.

“After I pay $250 in purchases at the ATM because none of the registers are open, don’t bother me asking to see my receipt.”

“Amen,” said a fellow shopper in the comments.

“I feel like you’re man, and when you were checking out, did any of their staff offer to help you if you needed help?” another added.

Much of the frustration surrounding the policy comes from shoppers who were forced to use self-checkouts and are now asked to show their work.

The US Sun previously reported on another Walmart customer who argued they wouldn’t show their receipt even if they put “Jesus himself on the door.”

“I still do not stop and show my receipt unless I am accused or suspected of theft by an official officer,” they said in a statement. publish in X.

Loyal shoppers have long been divided over the practice, with some arguing it is a small price to pay to keep prices low in stores as it protects the retailer’s losses.

Meanwhile, others questioned how their rights are affected by the policy and shared how to avoid receipt checkers.

However, shoppers who love self-checkout but loathe receipt checks may face a dilemma after Walmart recently announced that select stores will no longer have self-checkout.

A recent survey carried out by loan tree revealed the damage self-checkouts do to theft levels and as a result, removing self-checkout machines could be the solution to protecting stock.

As a result, receipt checks may become obsolete, but so will self-checkout efficiency.

Anti-theft measures implemented by retailers

Retailers in the US and Canada have implemented strategies designed to combat theft. The US Sun has compiled a list of measures that have been implemented in stores.

  • Lock items in cabinets.
  • Safety stakes.
  • Security cameras.
  • Signs warning about the impact of theft.
  • Receipt scanners.
  • Receipt checks.
  • Carts with locking technology

According to LendingTree, 15% of respondents admitted to intentionally stealing at least one self-checkout item, with an average value of $60.

The most shocking thing is that 44% of these people said they would do it again.

Of all respondents, 69% said they believe that self-service makes shoplifting easier.

It is for this reason that a new law is being proposed in California that will regulate self-checkouts in an attempt to reduce theft and increase efficiency for customers.

Meanwhile, another anti-theft tactic used by retailers including Walmart has one shopper turning to Amazon.

The US Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment.
